A good reminder saves a meeting or an awkward chase; a vague one gets muted within a week. Below are forty Slack reminders to copy, grouped by team, each written to be acted on rather than ignored. Change the channel names, user groups and times to match your workspace. For the full reference on how reminders work, see our guide to Slack reminders.

How to use these examples

Every example uses the format Slack documents, /remind [#channel] [what] [when], with me in place of the channel for a reminder to yourself. Paste one into any message field, adjust it, and send.

Three habits make them work. Always include a time, because a reminder set for a day without one arrives at 9 a.m. in your time zone. Mention a user group rather than a list of names; user groups notify every member at once and stay correct when people join or leave. And phrase the reminder as an action or a question, not a topic.

Personal reminders

These are for you alone, so they can be short. They work best when they name the exact next step.

/remind me to reply to the open threads in #ext channels today at 4pm/remind me to block two hours for the quarterly plan tomorrow at 9:30am/remind me to check whether Northwind signed the renewal on Thursday at 11am/remind me to update my status before the offsite on October 20 at 5pm/remind me to clear my unread DMs every weekday at 12pm/remind me to write down three wins from this week every Friday at 4:30pm

Reminders for a team channel

Channel reminders post their description in the channel at the time you choose, so everyone sees the same prompt. Write them for the people reading, not the person setting them.

Support and customer success

/remind #team-support @support-team Check every ext- channel for questions without a reply every weekday at 10am/remind #team-support @support-team Post this week's tricky tickets in a thread so we can add them to the FAQ every Thursday at 3pm/remind #team-cs @account-managers Which accounts went quiet this month? Reply in the thread on the 1st of every month at 10am/remind #team-cs @account-managers Send the QBR invites for accounts renewing in 60 days every Monday at 11am/remind #team-support Update the holiday cover note in each customer channel on December 18 at 2pm

Sales

/remind #team-sales @sales-team Log yesterday's calls before standup every weekday at 9am/remind #team-sales @sales-team Which deals slipped this week, and why? Reply in the thread every Friday at 2pm/remind #team-sales Update next month's forecast in the sheet on the 25th of every month at 10am/remind #team-sales @sales-leads Review proposals that have waited more than a week every Wednesday at 3pm/remind #team-sales @sales-team Follow up on every demo from last week that has no next step every Monday at 10am

Engineering

/remind #team-eng @eng-oncall Hand over the pager and open incidents in a thread every Monday at 9:30am/remind #team-eng @eng-team Review the open pull requests older than two days every weekday at 2pm/remind #team-eng Write up last week's incidents before the review every Tuesday at 11am/remind #team-eng @eng-leads Check the dependency upgrade queue on the 1st of every month at 10am/remind #releases @release-team Freeze merges for the release at 5pm today

Operations and IT

/remind #it-ops Check that last night's backups completed every weekday at 8:30am/remind #it-ops @it-team Remove accounts for people who left this month on the 28th of every month at 3pm/remind #it-ops Renew the domain and SSL certificates on March 1 at 10am/remind #office Restock the kitchen order every Thursday at 10am/remind #it-ops @it-team Review admin access to customer data on January 5 at 11am

The last one shows a limit worth knowing. Reminders repeat by the day but not by smaller increments, and Slack does not document a quarterly schedule. Set one dated reminder for each quarter instead.

/remind #proj-website @web-team What's blocking you this week? Reply in the thread every Monday at 10am/remind #proj-website Final copy is due to design tomorrow, so send yours today at 3pm/remind #launch @launch-team Run the launch checklist one last time on November 3 at 9am/remind #launch @launch-team Share launch-day numbers in the thread on November 5 at 4pm

Reminders on a message

Some reminders are better attached to the message they are about. Hover over a message, open the three dots menu and choose Remind me about this, then pick a time. When it fires, the original message comes back with it, so you do not have to search for the context.

Use this for one-off follow-ups: a customer question you need to come back to, a request you cannot answer today, or a decision waiting on someone else. Use /remind for anything that repeats or that a whole channel should see.

What makes a reminder work

Look back at the examples and the same three things appear in nearly every one: the action, the people who should take it, and a time. "Invoices" is a topic; "Send invoices for last month" is an action. A reminder that names who should act, through a user group, lands with them instead of everyone.

Questions work better than statements for anything that needs answers. "Which deals slipped this week, and why?" gets replies; "Pipeline review" gets an emoji. When you expect several answers, ask for them in a thread. Slack suggests that larger teams use a thread for answers, so the channel stays clear for other work.

Mind the time zones. A channel reminder fires once, at the time you set in your own time zone, for everyone in the channel. If your team spans London and San Francisco, a nine o'clock reminder from London arrives at one in the morning in California. Pick a time that lands inside working hours for the people who must act, or split the reminder into one per region's channel.

Finally, prune. A channel with eight reminders a day trains people to skip all of them. If a reminder has been ignored for a month, delete it or rewrite it.

View, change and delete your reminders

Your own reminders now live in To-dos. Slack is moving everyone from Later to To-dos, and the To-dos tab is replacing Later in the sidebar. Each reminder is a to-do with a due date, and you get a notification and a badge when it is due. Open To-dos to change the time, clear the due date or mark it done.

Channel reminders work differently. They cannot be edited, only deleted and recreated. To see them, go to the channel and type /remind list, then send it. Slack shows the channel's reminders, visible only to you, with a Delete button next to each one you are allowed to remove.

For reminders that repeat, our guide to recurring reminders in Slack covers the schedules that trip people up. When a reminder is not enough, for example because it should only fire if nobody replied, see our guide to Slack reminder bots. Everything else is in the main Slack reminders guide.

Questions people ask

Questions people ask

How do I create a reminder in Slack?

Type /remind in any message field, followed by me or a channel, what the reminder should say, and when. For example: /remind me to send the report tomorrow at 10am. You can also hover over a message and choose Remind me about this.

How do I see my reminders in Slack?

Your own reminders are in the To-dos tab in the sidebar, which is replacing Later. For a channel's reminders, type /remind list in that channel and send it.

How do I remove a reminder from Slackbot?

For your own reminders, open To-dos and clear the due date or remove the to-do. For a channel reminder, type /remind list in the channel and click Delete next to the reminder.

Can I edit a channel reminder?

No. Channel reminders cannot be edited. Delete the old one with /remind list and create a new one with the wording or schedule you want.

Can a reminder mention a whole team?

Yes. Include a user group such as @support-team in the reminder text. Everyone in the group is notified, and the reminder stays correct as people join or leave the group.
