Follow Up Bot

Never leave a customer waiting in Slack again

Follow Up Bot makes sure nothing in Slack goes unanswered. Ask a colleague a question and it nudges them if they never reply. Share channels with customers over Slack Connect and it alerts your team the moment one of them has waited too long.

Slack Connect customer channels

Silent until a customer has been forgotten

Normal conversations happen untouched. When a customer's message passes your response target with no reply from your team, one person gets a private alert. Nothing is ever posted where the customer can see it.

One quiet alert to the right people

Set a response target, say 30 minutes during business hours, and where alerts go, usually a private channel like #customer-alerts. Tag people or an on-call user group such as @support-oncall.

  • A reply, a thread answer, or a 👀 from anyone on your team stops the clock
  • Bots, edits and a customer's "thanks!" don't count
  • View, Snooze and Dismiss right on the alert

Still open? One escalation, then silence

If nobody has answered after a second interval, the alert goes to your escalation channel. Never more than two nudges for one message, so alerts stay meaningful.

Set up in about a minute

The bot finds the Slack Connect channels it is in. Pick the ones to watch, a target, your business hours and time zone, where alerts go and who to tag. Then send yourself a test alert.

Your own follow-ups

Ask, and never chase again

Ask a teammate something with an @mention. If they have not replied within your timer, the bot privately asks whether you want to send a reminder, and only posts one if you say so. Nobody gets nagged by accident.

  • Works in any channel the bot is in: type /followupbot and it joins
  • Away from your desk? The prompt waits for you as a DM
  • Ask me again in an hour, or drop it, right from the prompt

How it works

Three steps, no new inbox

1

Pick your customer channels

The bot finds your Slack Connect channels automatically. Set a response target, business hours, and where alerts go.

2

It watches every customer message

A reply, a thread answer, or a reaction from anyone on your team stops the clock. Bots, edits and "thanks!" don't count.

3

One quiet alert, then escalate

Tag people or an on-call user group. Still nothing after a second interval? It goes to your escalation channel. Never more than two nudges.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Do you have access to my questions or messages?

No. Your messages stay on Slack's servers. An automated system detects unanswered questions; we don't see or store message contents. For customer channels we keep only the timestamp and sender of a message until it is answered.

How does the Slack Connect alerting work?

Open the bot's Home tab, choose Set up customer channels, and pick the shared channels to watch (the bot pre-selects the Slack Connect channels it is already in). Set a response target, tag the people or on-call group to alert, and pick an internal channel like #customer-alerts for the alerts.

A message from someone at the customer's company starts the clock, in the channel or in a thread. A quick "thanks!" doesn't. A reply, a thread answer or a reaction from anyone on your team stops it. Bots and edits don't count. When the target passes, your team gets one alert with View, Snooze and Dismiss, and one escalation later if it is still open. Your customers never see any of it.

The Home tab: what is being watched, where alerts go, and a test-alert button

Want to see what an alert looks like? Open the Home tab and click Send me a test alert.

How do personal follow-ups work?

The bot keeps track of the questions you ask colleagues with an @mention. If a question hasn't been answered within your timer, it privately asks whether you want to send a reminder. Hit Send Reminder and an impersonal message tags the original question and the person you asked. If you are away, the prompt arrives as a DM instead, and you can send the reminder from there.

How do I add it to a channel?

Type /followupbot in the channel and the bot joins it, or use /invite @Follow Up Bot. Only you see its hello. /followupbot disable pauses your reminders and /followupbot enable resumes them. /followupbot on its own opens your settings.

Which questions does the bot track?

Questions that @mention someone, where that person hasn't written in the channel, hasn't replied in the thread, and nobody has reacted to the question within your timer.

Can it watch a whole internal channel?

Yes. In the channel, type /followupbot monitor and you will be reminded about any message there that you haven't replied or reacted to. /followupbot monitor list shows which channels you are monitoring.

How do I remove my data?

We collect the least data we need and remove everything about your workspace within 12 months of uninstalling. Want it gone sooner? Contact us through the support page or at [email protected] and we do it within 3 days.
